About

“You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar

I’m not big on Mission Statements, but if I needed to come up with one for this site, I think it could be summed up perfectly with the quote above.

My name is Jason Bougger. I’m a writer, a blogger, an editor, a dad, and a questioning IT guy. This site is Write Good Books. I started it with the goal of helping new writers learn the basics of fiction writing and all it entails.

I’ve been writing fiction for about eight years. I’m the author of Holy Fudgesicles (a YA novel published by Wings ePress in 2015) and have published nearly thirty short stories in various print and online markets. I’m also the owner and editor of Theme of Absence, an online magazine of horror, science fiction and fantasy, which publishes original short stories every Friday.

One thing I’ve come to understand is that as writers, we need to view our peers not as competition, but as teammates. Successful authors don’t take readers away from other authors; instead, they create new readers. Think of the thousands of people out there who wouldn’t be reading at all if it weren’t for authors like J. K. Rowling, Stephen King or Stephenie Meyers.

And that’s what brings us to this site.

I created Write Good Books with the idea that we are all on the same team. When one writer “makes it,” we all succeed. We can learn from what they did right and what they did wrong. We’re all writers here, regardless of our experience level or the amount of success we’ve achieved and when writers help writers, everyone gets better.

I still have a lot to learn. I’ve made more mistakes than I can count. But I’ve also learned more than I thought possible. What I hope to do here is share not only what I’ve learned in the past, but what I will learn in the future. I truly do believe that quote from Zig Ziglar, and that if we help others succeed, we will succeed as well.  If I can help a single new writer come closer to finding success in their craft, then my time here will be well spent.

So check out my blog on the main page and browse through our writing resources and archives. I’m always open to feedback, so feel free to leave a comment on the blog, or contact me through the contact page.
