Back in business (more or less…)

September 1, 2018 By: Jason Bougger

When I decided to take a break from the blog for a bit, someone asked why I'm still doing it. Well, it goes like this: I enjoy it. I enjoy sharing what I know about writing and the business of writing. I love helping new writers know that they are not alone in their struggle. Everything I say in the site's mission statement hold true, so give it a read.

Hey, writers! So if you’ve poked your head into the Write Good Books Blog lately you might have noticed a few podcasts, but not a lot of anything else. Like I said in July, I was going to take a little break from blogging to catch my breath a bit and work on some other stuff.

Well, that break time is over, and I think I’m ready to start posting on a semi-regular schedule again. But first, I’d like to share some of the writing-related stuff I did in the last two months while I was taking that tiny break.

The biggest project was getting the podcast up to date on YouTube. I had stopped uploading episodes there after number 25, but now all 68 of them are they. If you prefer to use YouTube for listening to podcasts (as I do) click on over to the Write Good Books YouTube Channel. Right now, it’s only podcast episodes, but I’ve got some other plans for it in the next year or so.

Speaking of the podcast, I finally went out and got it listed in a bunch of places, so it’s easier to find and subscribe to.

One thing I didn’t plan to work on, but did anyhow, was short stories. I even finished a new one! I cleaned up some of my unpublished ones and currently have four under review at publishers. I have one more almost ready to send off, but it needs another few read-throughs (and probably a rewrite of the ending) before it’s ready.

But far away, the most important writing-related thing I did in the last few months was…wait for it…writing. I got a pretty decent start on the first book of a planned fantasy trilogy. It is going somewhat slow, but it’s an entirely new style and sub-genre for me. I’ve written “fantasy” in the the past, but not the “swords and sorcery” type. I think I’m doing okay. The frightening part is the word count. I’ve written two novels in my life and both are under 60,000 words. That’s like 1/5 the words required in a fantasy novel these days.

Yikes.

Oh well…so now that I’m sort of back on the blog, here’s what you can expect here. I’ll post often, but not all the time. Sometimes I’ll have writing tips and advice for you, and sometimes I might just talk about how my novel is progressing, and anything new I’m learning by writing it. I’ll bring back Five Links Friday next week, and will continue to post the Write Good Books Podcast here on the site.

As always, the best way to know when new stuff shows up on the site is to check the big red subscribe box on the right side of the screen ->

And then keep writing.

Welcome back to the blog 🙂
