Blog schedule update, aka taking a short break

July 4, 2018 By: Jason Bougger

I'm taking a little break from blogging to shift focus to the next novel. Be sure to subscribe so you know when we're back on a regular schedule!

Hey new writers and regular readers, I just wanted to give a quick update on the site, the podcast, Theme of Absence, and everything else I’m doing, including my own writing.

I’m typing this on July 4, listening to the explosions outside my door, and it’s really cool. In fact, the fourth of July is usually one of my favorite nights to write. Last year, my wife took the kids to her dad’s overnight I got a cool 2000+ words written for a novel was working on.

Anyhow, that’s neither here, nor there. Since it is already July, that means summer is like half way over. I set out with some pretty ambitious writing goals for the summer and just haven’t made the progress I had hoped for.

So I’ve made the decision to take a little break from regular posts here–I’m thinking around two months–and shift focus to the novel I’ve been trying to get done. You may have noticed a decrease in the number of posts in the several weeks, and I’m finding more and more difficult to find that balance between blogging and writing fiction.

Now, I do want to be clear that I don’t have any plans to abandon this blog. It’s been a great three-and-a-half years for me on the blog and I love helping new writers learn about the craft and the business. But I’ve got to be honest too. With four young kids and all my other stuff, I just need to step back, catch up on Theme of Absence, and make some huge progress on my next novel.

Finally, I will still be here! As of this writing, we’ll continue with the Write Good Books Podcast and post new episodes here, as well as all of the usual places. I’ll also continue to respond to emails and social media. And Theme of Absence isn’t going anywhere. If anything, I’ll be looking for ways to strengthen that site. So please, don’t forget about Write Good Books, and be sure to check back in September to see a new refreshed Jason “Blogger”. And also, for bonus point, consider subscribing to the mail list just so you don’t miss any new posts or podcasts!

So, thanks for reading and thanks for all the support. I hope that you all make some good progress toward your own writing goals while I’m out on my writing sabbatical too!
