Looking at Q2 2019

April 9, 2019 By: Jason Bougger

Here's a personal update on some of the projects I'm working on and what I hope to get done in the next few months.

March is always kind of a weird month for me. I always end up getting a simultaneous case of birthday hope and birthday blues. It’s also the end of the first quarter of the year, and I often end up wondering if I got enough done in the year so far.

But I do love Spring (to quote Jim Gaffigan: It’s my favorite day of the year) and feel nothing but positive vibes going into the season.

I wanted to just give a quick update on what I’ll be doing in the next few months and where I hope to be by July 1. There’s always so much going on, and even though I sometime feel like I’m taking on too much, it’s a great feeling to know that I’m not coasting through life.

52 Dragons

My absolute highest priority is still 52 Dragons, the card game I’m developing. The playtesting has gone really well so far, but I still need to do quite a bit more of it. The card designs are ready to go, as far as I can tell, and I think I’m finally done revising the instruction manual. I used to think writing fiction was difficult. Then I tried writing a game manual. Wow, if that’s not an art form all by itself.

Theme of Absence

Onto other stuff, I’ve been managing to keep mostly current on my Theme of Absence submissions. I have stories scheduled a few months out now, which gives a nice buffer zone. I’m really trying to get current on my Patreon comments for the site as well. For those interested, Patreon subscribers to Theme of Absence can get my quick thoughts on the stories I publish, as well as why I choose each particular story.

Write Good Books

As regular readers might have noticed, my blogging had pretty much dropped off from December of last year until around April. The podcast also secretly became a monthly show. Well, I’m not happy about that at all. And it’s totally on me. The blog…well I did take a break to work on the card game, but the podcast needs to stay on schedule. So I need to get back on it. We’re trying…The March 25 and April 8 shows were published on schedule 🙂 I still enjoy doing it; it was just one of those things that slipped by when I was designing cards.

Public Appearances

Believe it or not, I’m still making the occasional public appearance. The Nebraska Writers Guild Spring Conference takes place next weekend (4/11 – 4/13) and I’ll be hanging out there with a bunch of my writer buddies. There’s still time to sign up, so if you’re a writer within driving distance of Omaha, click on over and sign up. You won’t regret it!

The other big event in April is ConStellation 10 in Lincoln (4/26 – 4 /28). I’ll be there helping out with the NWG Table, and also participating in a handful of writing panels. This will be my third time doing this con, and it’s really grown in the last few years. I’m totally excited for this one.

Writing?

Writing? What’s that? Haha. I have actually managed to write a tiny bit as of late. I even started sending out short stories again. I’m taking it slow, but my big goal for the second half of the year is to get back to my trilogy. I haven’t forgotten it, but I have to get 52 Dragons released before I can delve back into any large writing projects.

So there you have it. I’m still here, alive, and well. I hope you’re all doing well too. If you’ve got any writing goals for the rest of the year, feel free to drop ’em in the comments section and we can commiserate together support each other.

Take care and see ya soon!
