Five Links Friday 9/14/18

September 14, 2018 By: Jason Bougger

The best articles I read about writing this week.Wow, Friday’s already here. Sorry I haven’t been too active this week, I got hit over the head with a sinus infection and strep throat. Lost my voice (hurts to yell at the kids) and developed a nasty cough (hurts as much as yelling at the kids.) I missed a podcast do to all that, but fortunately Scott came through with a solo one I should get posted this weekend.

Sucks to be sick, but onward and upward….here’s another edition of Five Links Friday!

1. Let’s start of this week’s links on a positive note. Here’s an interview Tom Bilyeu did with LeVar Burton on The Secret to Believing In Yourself. Not necessarily writing related, but he does touch on the importance of science fiction. Definitely give this one a listen.

2. I decided to head back to the archives for the rest of this week’s list. Here are some great tips on How to Write a Fight Scene by September C. Fawkes. Click the Grammar Girl link for an audio version too.

3. Amanda Patterson at Writers Write gives us 10 Dialogue Errors Writers Should Avoid. Good advice that is always worth repeating.

4. And since we’re on the topic of mistakes, here are 5 Common Writing Mistakes That Make You Look Like an Amateur by Justin McLachlan. Take it to heart.

5. Finally, let’s close out this week with an older post from one of my favorite writing blogs, K.M. Weiland’s Helping Writers Become Authors, with some tips on How to Successfully Kill a Character.

That does it for this week. Hope you have a great weekend, get some writing done, and if you’re starting to feel October early, be sure to check out the guidelines for our Theme of Absence Halloween Horror Flash Fiction contest.
